Yoga stars at the Democratic Convention

Wednesday 27 August, 2008

I was fascinated to read that America's largest yoga magazine, Yoga Journal, has a reporter covering the Democratic National Convention this week.

The reason? An special de-stressing area, Oasis, has been set up at the convention, offering yoga classes, hand massages, Thai massages and mini-facials.

All this was born from an idea earlier this summer, when LA-based yogini Seane Corn was teaching yoga privately to the editor of internet newspaper, The Huffington Post.

The two became captivated by the idea of creating a restful space in the middle of a formal convention setting.

Seane is quoted as saying, 'There's a lot of insanity out there. I'm introducing a little bit of fairy dust. I know the magi of yoga and I am trusting it. If someone's spirit alters even a little bit, then we've done our job.'

Could setting up a yoga space in the midst of an otherwise yang, corporate environment, only happen in America? I do hope not.
